Sanju Samson’s name is currently everywhere, as the batter’s back-to-back T20I hundreds are making him the talk of the town. The Indian superstar scored his second ton against South Africa at Kingsmead Stadium in Durban on November 8, making him the first Indian to score consecutive hundreds in T20Is. His last century came recently against Bangladesh, where Samson scored his maiden T20I hundred, blasting 111 off 47 balls as India posted a record-breaking 297-run total in Hyderabad. He also went on to register the fastest hundred for India in T20Is, surpassing Suryakumar Yadav’s record.
When Samson took the stride, he immediately attacked the bowlers, but what truly stood out was his conversion. It took Samson just 20 balls to go from 50 to 100. With 10 sixes and 7 fours, he took on every bowler.
With this electrifying ton, the Kerala batter has now become only the fourth player globally to score centuries in consecutive T20I innings, joining England’s Phil Salt, South Africa’s Rilee Rossouw, and France’s Gustav Mckeon.
India stamps 202 against South Africa
All thanks to Sanju Samson and contributions from skipper Suryakumar Yadav and Tilak Varma, who scored 21 and 33 respectively. With these small contributions and Samson’s big innings, India posted a total of 202 runs on the board at Kingsmead, Durban, score expected to be competitive on this surface.
Aiden Markram’s side, having won the toss and elected to field first, saw Proteas bowler Gerald Coetzee bag three wickets (3/37) in this first T20I clash.
