I’LL SHOW YOU WHEN THAT MOVES OUT AND WHAT YOUR WEEKEND IS LOOKING LIKE. ALL RIGHT CHRIS, WE APPRECIATE IT. RIGHT NOW GREENVILLE COUNTY DEPUTIES ARE INVESTIGATING THE DEATHS OF TWO MEN INSIDE A MOTEL. IT ALL HAPPENED AT THE BUDGET INN ON BRUCE ROAD. AND THAT IS WHERE WE FIND OUR MAYA PEYTON, WHO HAS THE LATEST FROM INVESTIGATORS. MAYA. MARK. AND CAROL, WORKERS. TELL ME THAT THE SCREAMS FROM INSIDE THAT MOTEL ROOM WILL NOT BE EASY TO FORGET. THEY SAY THE PEOPLE INSIDE WERE SCREAMING FOR THEIR LIVES. THEY WERE SCREAMING FOR SOMEONE TO HELP THEM. NOW, DEPUTIES SAY THEY RESPONDED JUST BEFORE 945. THIS MORNING. HERE TO THE BUDGET IN GREENVILLE COUNTY SHERIFF’S OFFICE SAYS TWO MEN WERE FOUND DEAD INSIDE THIS ROOM AND A THIRD PERSON WAS RUSHED TO THE HOSPITAL. ACCORDING TO INVESTIGATORS, THE WINDOW OF THE ROOM WAS BUSTED OUT FROM THE INSIDE SCENES. THEY ARE STILL IN THE EARLY STAGES AND THEY ARE UNSURE HOW THE EVENTS HERE PLAYED OUT. EMPLOYEE AND RESIDENT OF THE MOTEL, ANGELA WRIGHT, SAYS SHE HEARD THE SCREAMS OF THE MEN INSIDE THAT ROOM. INVESTIGATORS SAY THERE ARE DETAILS THAT MAKE THIS CASE VERY SUSPICIOUS. NERVES IS ALREADY UP. I HAD A BAD PANIC ATTACK AND COLLAPSED OUT BACK WHEN EVERYTHING TOOK PLACE. SO I MEAN, I DON’T KNOW WHAT MORE TO SAY, BUT YOU KNOW, IT’S DEVASTATING. I’M GOING TO HAVE MY GUARD UP ON ALL THE TIME NOW. WELL, THE CORONER IS FAMILIAR WITH THE MOTEL AND SAYS HE HAS BEEN HERE FOR A FIRE AND MULTIPLE DRUG OVERDOSES. I ALSO WANT TO LET YOU KNOW THAT INVESTIGATORS SAY THEY DO HAVE VIDEO SURVEILLANCE FROM THE MOTEL. AND IT COULD APPEAR THAT SOMEONE ELSE WAS INSIDE OF THAT ROOM. BUT RIGHT NOW, INVESTIGATORS DO CONTINUE TO REMIND US THAT IT’S VERY TOO EARLY TO TELL. ALSO, WANT TO NOTE, I DID ASK INVESTIGATORS IF THERE WAS A WEAPON THAT WAS USED IN THIS CASE, AND THEY TOLD ME THEY ARE UNABLE TO ANSWER THAT RIGHT NOW, BUT MORE ANSWERS WILL COME AS EARLY AS TOMORROW. IN GREENVILLE COUNTY, I’M MAYA PAYTON, WYFF NEWS FOUR. THANK YOU MAYA. A SOUTH CAROLINA MAN IS STANDING TRIAL ACCUSED OF SHOOTING AND TRYING TO KILL A GREENVILLE ATTORNEY ACTING AS AN ALLEGED HIT MAN. PEYTON FURTADO IS COVERING THIS TRIAL FOR US TODAY AND HAS BEEN COVERING THIS CASE FOR MONTHS. SHE’S LIVE WITH TODAY’S FINDINGS NOW. PEYTON. YEAH. GOOD EVENING. MARK AND CAROL. THE DEFENSE CALLED SIX AT LEAST SIX WITNESSES TODAY. THEY ALL LINED UP IN THE HALLWAY WAITING FOR HOURS AS BOTH THE STATE AND THE DEFENSE QUESTIONED WITNESSES AND EXPERTS ALIKE FOR WHAT FELT LIKE HOURS. WHAT WERE HOURS TODAY? NOW, SOME OF THEM ARE GOING TO HAVE TO COME BACK TOMORROW, BECAUSE COURT HAS LET OUT FOR THE DAY. IT’S GOING TO START BACK UP AT 930 TOMORROW MORNING. NOW, WHILE THE STATE ARGUED A FIRED BULLET CASING FOUND UNDER TRAVIS DOUGLAS DRIVER’S SEAT THE DAY HE WAS ARRESTED INDICATES HE SHOT ATTORNEY J.P. BAUM. THE DEFENSE HELD THAT BECAUSE OF DOUGLAS’S MILITARY RECORD, HE WOULD HAVE KNOWN TO GET THAT CASING AFTER THE FACT. DAVID SMITH, THE MAN THE STATE SAYS WAS BEING SUED BY THIS LAW FIRM AND WHO, THEY SAY PUT DOUGLAS UP TO THE SHOOTING, MAY NOT HAVE. THE DEFENSE QUESTIONED A CELL PHONE FORENSICS EXPERT LATER ON TODAY WHO SAID IN HIS OPINION, TRAVIS DOUGLAS’S PHONE WAS NOT NEAR THE LAW FIRM. FROM 4 P.M. TO 7 P.M. THAT’S WHEN THAT VAN WAS THERE. AND THAT VIDEO, THAT’S WHY THE G. THAT’S WHY THE GEOFENCE, HE SAID. LAW ENFORCEMENT USED TO DO THIS RESEARCH, DIDN’T PICK IT UP. THE DAVID SMITH’S ANDROID WAS ITS GPS OFF? YES, SIR. WOULD IT SHOW UP IN A GEOFENCE? NO, SIR. AND TODAY, AS THE STATE RESTED, DEFENSE SOWED DOUBT THAT DOUGLAS WAS THE SHOOTER. INSTEAD, IT MADE A CASE FOR WHY LAW ENFORCEMENT SHOULD NOT HAVE OVERLOOKED OTHER SUSPECTS LIKE DAVID SMITH OR SOME OF DAVID SMITH’S FAMILY MEMBERS. LIKE HIS WIFE. THE DAY DOUGLAS WAS ARRESTED, GOOGLE SEARCHES FOUND THAT DAVID SMITH LOOKED UP THE MAXIMUM ACCESSORY TO ATTEMPTED MURDER AND THEN QUICK WILLED HIS HOUSE TO HIS WIFE THE DAY AFTER HE DIED IN A CAR WRECK, HE DROVE 105 MILES AN HOUR INTO A UTILITY POLE. NOW, THIS IS A VERY COMPLICATED CASE WITH A LOT OF BACKGROUND, A LOT OF CONTEXT. WE HAVE ALL OF THAT FOR YOU ON WYFF4.COM LIVE IN GREENVILLE COUNTY. I’M PEYTON FURTADO FOR WYFF NEWS FOUR. PEYTON. NO WORD ON A MOTIVE FOR THE CRIMES. CHAMBERS DENIES ANY WRONGDOING. SEVERAL PEOPLE AND ANIMALS IN PICKENS COUNTY HAVE BEEN EXPOSED TO RABIES.
